Hi again! I just wanted to make a correction to the last blog posting. After reading more on the BPA issue, I found that the 7 recycling code does not mean that the item DEFINITELY has BPA in it. The 7 just means that the item is made from more than one kind of plastic, and it may or may not have BPA in it. Since consumers have no way of knowing which kinds of plastic were used in the item, experts have been advising that they just try to avoid products labeled with a 7. Out of all the recycling codes (1-7), seven seems to be the riskiest and the one to avoid. I was happy to read that the seven doesn't always mean it has BPA in it, since the juice Maddie has been drinking has a 7 on the bottom. She does not drink much juice anyway, I guess. I don't think she has been exposed to much BPA other than possibly the juice. She hardly had any bottles as a baby (and some were glass bottles), has always eaten baby food from glass jars, and drinks/eats from safe sippy cups & dinnerware. I try to stay informed on all these harmful chemicals that can affect infants (BPA, pthalates, etc.), but more and more keep popping up!

BPA is scary! I have done a ton of research on this. It has a link to breast and prostate cancer, heart disease, diabetes, among other things. This is not only true for infants and kids, but also adults. Check out www.safemama.com. It has a wealth of information. The "bad" numbers are 3,6,and 7. Things with 1,2, and 5 are the best. www.safemama.com has lots of info about Gerber. They basically say they have contacted Gerber numerous times and they still don't feel comfortable with it. I contacted Gerber myself and they would not give me a clearcut answer, so we do not use any Gerber products. Liam gets all Earth's Best products, which all come in glass. All of his bottles, bowls, spoons, etc. are either the brands Born Free or Boon. We watch for BPA and test all of his toys for lead. A lot of companies are now marking the packages with BPA free or pthalate free. Pthalate is another concern. All of Liam's bath products are California Baby, which is free of everything. Also, Pottery Barn Kids just came out with a line of bath products, which we love. Anyway, all of this is scary and we feel a little paranoid at times. Oh well, it is okay to want the very best for our baby!!!
